Muzaffar Shah

Muzaffar Shah
(?—1411)
The founder of the sultanate of Gu-jarat, he was originally known as Zafar Khan. He was a convert to Is-lam from a sect of Hindu Khatris known as Tanks. Zafar Khan was governor of Gujarat at the time of Timur's invasion (1398). Taking advantage of the collapse of central authority, Zafar Khan became in-dependent in Gujarat, leading to his declaring himself a sovereign ruler in 1407 with the title Sultan Muzaffar Shah. He died in 1411 and was succeeded on the throne by his grandson Ahmad Shah.
